The ’80s design movement known as Memphis has reemerged. A bold and brash style, full of graphic aplomb and primary colours Memphis isn’t for the faint hearted. Bold graphic prints and a resurgence of vibrant primary colours are the key features of this Memphis inspired wallpaper collection.
Trends are cyclical, and it seems that even the most outrageous ones find a way of coming back in vogue. Hence, memphis wallpaper with its loud colours and zany patterns, once laughed off as one of many bad decisions made in the 1980s, have come sneaking back into interiors. The Memphis movement was originally initiated by Ettore Sottsass in the 80s, who gathered a group of fellow designers with a vision to start a revolution against the sober and functional ear of modernist design. They took their name from a Bob Dylan song titled Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again which was played on repeat during their first meeting. The Milan-based Memphis Group went on to develop one of the most recognisable styles of the late 20th century.
